Mistaken Identity by Ken Wong (http://www.kenart.net)

Mistaken Identity

Ken Wong has created an amazing array of artwork, testing the waters of a variety of styles & finding himself at home with them all. His illustrations range from storybook to surreal to simply masterful. I only wish I had more room to feature his art here – you have to see it all to truly appreciate the inspiring cornucopia of talent that is Ken Wong.

Two Set Out In Dark Waters

Here’s what he has to say for himself:

“I’m an artist, illustrator, & designer from Adelaide, Australia. I currently work as an Art Director at a computer game studio called Spicy Horse, in Shanghai. I’ve done visualisation and art direction work for a range of clients, mostly in the games industry. All my art is digital, although often it begins as a pencil sketch. I use Adobe Photoshop for everything. I love the art of Gustav Klimt, Mike Mignola, Shaun Tan, Moebius, Zdzislaw Beksinski & James Jean.” – Ken Wong

PaperStreet’s 1st Annual

Shades of Pink ACEO Challenge

Gypsy Soul (Pink 2) by Charlotte Self

Gypsy Soul (Pink 2) by Charlotte Self

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there are several groups on flickr where you can post your pink artwork or photos to raise awareness & funds for breast cancer research charities.

Charlotte has challenged herself to make 1 pink collage every day for the rest of October, which she’ll post in the two fund-raising groups below. For each photo added to these groups, Yahoo will donate money to charities & research organizations in the United States and several European countries.

Now we’re stepping it up a notch & challenging YOU! This is an open call to any artist interested in creating ACEO art trading card collages with a pink theme. Images will be submitted to the two Flickr groups & will not only be oggled by tons of people, many of whom will doubtlessly mutter “Ooh, shiny!” to themselves as they gander and gawk at your lovely work… Where was I? Oh, yea… We’d LOVE it if you’d submit them to the groups yourselves, but we understand that many of you might not have or even want a free Flickr account – so we’ll be happy to post them for you, just let us know! We’ll also be willing (albeit grudgingly) to withhold posting work at the request of any participating artist. Now, the fun stuff!!

Pink” is the theme, otherwise the contest is fairly wide open. Collages should be approximately 2.5″ x3.5″ (trading card sized). We do ask that you use *primarily* images from the three free pink-themed collage sheets to create your collages, but you are welcome to use outside images for secondary elements, extra touches, etc. – and since it’s for a good cause, we’re willing to accept any/all pink entries. We do ask that you keep it family friendly – nudity is acceptable, but nothing raunchy please. Images deemed distasteful will be removed at our discretion (keep in mind, we have an 8 year old son).

We also ask that you join and cross post your pink images to the following flickr groups – your pictures can help raise money for breast cancer research!

David Meanix: Photo Sculptor

David Meanix:
Photo Sculpture

Photo scupltures by David Meanix (http://www.davidmeanix.com)

David Meanix continues his extraordinary exploration into the genre of photosculpture, an invention of his which has been widely disseminated and imitated all over the world. Meanix has pioneered a technique whereby he shoots “one shot per every plane of the subject, inch by inch until I’ve covered all of the subject I want to sculpt. Next, I print each picture to ‘actual size.’ Then I match and cover the original subject with papier maché photocopies of those pictures.” He then uses the finished sculptures as a “mask prop,” which becomes a character in a photographic tableau. Unlike traditional characters, these are charged with additional contradictions of context and authenticity. Recast using various techniques of commercial photography such as portraiture, fashion, and advertising, the resulting tableaux convey a truly remarkable sensibility.
