Bottle Cap Artwork by Molly B. Right

Molly B. Right is a self-taught artist who uses discarded bottle caps to stunning effect in her captivating portraiture. Ms. Right has been creating artwork since 1993 and resides in Charleston, South Carolina.

Right’s bottle cap portraits begins with a painted portrait, then the bottle caps are glued on in an overlapping manner, not unlike snake scales. The bottle caps themselves are vintage collectibles and date from 1930′s to 1970′s.

Right pays careful attention not to leave any traces of glue & often uses transparent washings of glaze to further enhance & define the images.

These portraits are typically 4′ x 5′ and weigh in between 60 to 70 lbs.

The portrait above was commissioned by the Medical University of South Carolina to celebrate the extraordinary career of master blacksmith Phillip Simmons.
