Michael Sprouse: Cause To Fade

Posted by: Kenneth Rougeau    in Art, Artists, Collage, Mixed Media, Photography, Websites, painting

Artwork by Michael Sprouse(http://www.sprouseart.com)

“As an artist, I find that the most memorable art, regardless of its style, all share one common characteristic – it’s the ability to sucessfully tell a story. Since the birth of communication, humanity has been connected to the ’story’. We are lulled to sleep by them as children, enthralled by them on the stage and screen as adults, and are compelled to share our own with the young as we drift into senior-hood. I have always been fascinated by the imagery of early silent film and vintage photography and the ’stories’ they portrayed. It is the same focus on silent communication, delivered only by expression that motivates my work today. I use in-depth expression in my work to relate interpersonal stories of lost love, hope, fear, desire, dedication, wistful remembrances and more. The faces I paint are symbolically reminiscent of vague and vintage dream landscapes which focus on the metaphoric mood and flow of each person’s individual story.” – Michael Sprouse

Moving Pictures: Brief Lives & Living Portraits

Posted by: Kenneth Rougeau    in Art, Artists, Photography, Websites

Moving Pictures by Michael Williams, Richard Cahan, and Nicholas Osborn (http://www.squareamerica.com)

Don’t miss this amazing collection of photographs!

“20 animated series of photobooth strips and/or multiple photobooth images of the same person. A jittery, flickering, Frankensteinian attempt to bring old photos back to life. A couple of the series (the first and last images) are comprised of over 30 images, so they’ll take a little time to load, but they’re worth the wait!” created by Michael Williams, Richard Cahan, and Nicholas Osborn

Alexey Titarenko: Prolonged Exposure

Alexey Titarenko:
Prolonged Exposure

Photography by Alexey Titarenko (http://www.alexeytitarenko.com)

“Attuned to atmosphere rather than architecture, his poignant images – particularly of people – are often deliberately blurred, a metaphor for life’s uncertainty. Dostoevsky, still a haunting presence in the city, is at times Alexey Titarenko’s inspiration in conveying its noirish aspects. In ‘Untitled (Stranger)’ of 1996, two indistinct figures, seen through lines of slanting snow before a building lighted only by a basement window, make a scene right out of ‘Crime & Punishment.’” – Grace Glueck, The New York Times
