Are Mokkelbost is a talented young artist from Oslo, Norway. Mokkelbost creates breathtaking collages that are painstakingly crafted & intricately detailed. At first glance, it’s easy to mistake Are‘s paper collages for oil paintings.
Are Mokkelbost‘s work is influenced by music & design, two subjects he’s been constantly involved in. Are is a member of the bands KILLL, Single Unit and ARM.
Are Mokkelbost‘s ION – OMNI collection is a collage “world” based on the visual transformation of fashion photography to it’s symbolic opposite. Mokkelbost used only scissors and glue for these incredible collages.
Are Mokkelbost defines his ION – OMNI collage series as “a teenage image world.
“They are like fires made of geometrical shapes that have the power, phoenix like, to create life – strange heads of hair that become the fire rather than being destroyed by it,” said one reviewer of Mokkelbost‘s ION works.
Mokkelbost collects small scraps of paper & slowly builds them into large scale works of art. Most of his materials are found in lifestyle & fashion magazines.
Instead of pasting the images down, Mokkelbost meticulously chooses pieces that will give the work a three dimensional look based on the lighting and color schemes available in his palette of available paper pieces. The resulting collages are seamless and bear little trace of the collaging process.
