Shades of Pink

Digital ACEO Collage Challenge

We’re now accepting entries for the 2nd Annual “Shades of Pink” Digital ACEO Collage Challenge. October’s just around the corner & last year Yahoo! donated money for breast cancer research based on the amount of pink images submitted to various flickr groups. If they’re doing so again, we’ll be submitting all contest entries to these groups… and if not, we’ll show them off here. Either way, we’ve got prizes for the winners, so read the guidelines, grab some free collage sheets & get creating!

Pink” is once again the theme. ACEO collages are traditionally 2.5″ x3.5″ (trading card sized), though we will be accepting any pink collage submissions. It’s for a good cause after all :)

We are offering 6 free digital collage sheets to help spark your creativity.

Feel free to message us with any questions or comments.

We are not requiring that you use these images, as we did last year. Instead, you’re welcome to incorporate whatever elements you have access to & create any pink themed collage you’d like. We do want to keep the contest family friendly – nudity is acceptable, but nothing pornographic please. Images deemed distasteful will be removed at our discretion.

We also ask that you join and cross post your pink images to the flickr groups when they open in October (we’ll let you know). Your pictures can help raise money for breast cancer research!

David Meanix:
Photo Sculpture

Photo scupltures by David Meanix (http://www.davidmeanix.com)

David Meanix continues his extraordinary exploration into the genre of photosculpture, an invention of his which has been widely disseminated and imitated all over the world. Meanix has pioneered a technique whereby he shoots “one shot per every plane of the subject, inch by inch until I’ve covered all of the subject I want to sculpt. Next, I print each picture to ‘actual size.’ Then I match and cover the original subject with papier maché photocopies of those pictures.” He then uses the finished sculptures as a “mask prop,” which becomes a character in a photographic tableau. Unlike traditional characters, these are charged with additional contradictions of context and authenticity. Recast using various techniques of commercial photography such as portraiture, fashion, and advertising, the resulting tableaux convey a truly remarkable sensibility.
